San Francisco Bay Area
An urban immersion
June 10 - 16, 2020
Join us for an innovative missionary discipleship immersion tailored to people ministering to the homeless. Immerse yourself in the call and reality of Christ the Servant and look at the issues facing our sisters and brothers on the margins (homelessness, sex trafficking, food insecurity, etc.).
We will spend time living, learning, serving, and encountering others as Christ the Servant, with daily reflections to help root us in Maryknoll's mission spirituality of over 100 years. We will also have daily Liturgy of the Hours (Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer) and education on issues of homelessness and economic inequality from a group of experts on the front lines. The week will be led in part by Maryknoll's Church Engagement Division Director, Fr. Bob Jalbert, M.M. who has experience with these issues from a global perspective and can guide us in discerning how best to respond.
These issues are among the greatest challenges of marginalization in our communities today. This Maryknoll mission will base our learning in Church teachings and the words and actions of Jesus Christ. The challenges of homelessness, sex trafficking, food insecurity, etc. are most evident in places where the economy is booming (such as the Silicon Valley). This experience will ground us in the context of global solidarity and how God is calling us all to respond.
Estimated costs: $600 which includes room with attached bath, breakfasts / lunches at the Maryknoll Mission Center in Los Altos, CA, and transportation.
