Nate is the Co-Founder and Editor of Black Catholic Messenger, a nonprofit digital media publication covering stories of interest to African-American Catholics. He is a graduate of Pepperdine University, where he received a B.A. in Religion, and is currently a master’s student in theology a the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University of Louisiana. Dr. Imelda Macías is the Assistant Vice President of Family and Community Engagement at Saint Xavier University. With over 10 years of leadership experience at SXU, she has served as director of Graduate Admissions, project director for three U.S. Department of Education Title V grants, executive director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and assistant vice president of Inclusive Excellence and HSI Initiatives. A first-generation student from the south side of Chicago, Dr. Macías is committed to promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture at SXU. She is involved in various campus committees and student organizations.
Dr. Macías holds a Doctor of Education from Governors State University, an MBA from SXU, and a bachelor's degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. Her research focuses on the role of Hispanic-Serving Institutions in supporting first-generation Latinx students' enrollment, retention, and graduation.
Elise currently serves as the Campus Minister for Community Life & Solidarity at Santa Clara University. She received her B.A in Sociology and Religious Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her MDiv from SCU’s Jesuit School of Theology. She centers her ministry and scholarship on queer, feminist theologies and spiritualities. Before arriving at SCU, she worked with USF’s Lane Center for Catholic Social Thought, Future Church (an organization that advocates for Catholic women’s ordination), and New Ways Ministry (a group that advocates for LGBTQ+ acceptance and liberation in the Catholic Church). The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers have long been committed to fostering global solidarity, ministering to those on the margins, and ensuring that all people—especially the most vulnerable—are heard and treated with the dignity and respect that God intends for every person. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just values but essential to the call of missionary discipleship, reflecting the Gospel's invitation to embrace all with love and justice.
